LG unveils solar-powered borehole in Kano

LG Electronics has inaugurated a solar-powered borehole in the Kawaji Saunar MamaU community, Nassarawa Local Government Area, Kano State, Nigeria.

The initiative, part of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, aims to improve access to clean water and enhance the quality of life for local residents.

For years, communities in rural Kano have struggled with water scarcity, often travelling long distances to fetch water from unreliable sources.

The newly commissioned borehole is set to change this by providing a sustainable and dependable supply of clean water.

Unlike conventional boreholes that rely on electricity or manual pumping, this system is powered by solar energy, taking advantage of Kano’s abundant sunlight.

The initiative not only ensures a continuous water supply but also reduces operational costs, making it a sustainable solution for the community.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Mr. Paul Mba, Head of Corporate Marketing at LG Electronics, emphasised the company’s commitment to community development. He said:

“Water is a basic necessity. At LG, we are dedicated to leveraging technology to enhance lives. By integrating solar power into this project, we guarantee that the community will enjoy long-term access to clean water without the burden of high energy costs.”

The borehole also features an advanced purification system to ensure that the water meets safe drinking standards, helping to combat waterborne diseases and improve public health.

The initiative has been met with widespread appreciation from local leaders and residents. Alhaji Kabir Tijjani Hashim, Turakin Kano and District Head of Kawaji Saunar, described the project as “a lifeline for our community”, while resident Alhaji Umar Adamu highlighted its transformational impact:

“This borehole will change our lives. We no longer have to risk our health by relying on distant water sources. Clean water is essential for our families, and we are deeply thankful for this support.”

Chairman of Nassarawa Local Government, Hon. Tusuf Imam, praised LG’s efforts and encouraged other private organisations to invest in similar projects, stating:

“This is a shining example of how private sector involvement can lead to meaningful change. We encourage more organisations to invest in community development like LG has done today.”

The event was attended by various local dignitaries, including the Imam of the local mosque, Hon. Samani Abdullahi, and H.O.D. Wash Nassarawa LGA, Hon. Kamal I.G Kawaji.
