The Lions International Club, Zone 10, District 404A1, of Asaba, Delta state, has donated 173 cartons of books worth N100million to a Kaduna-based private school, Standard Foundation Schools.

The books, which were equally donated to Lions International by a group known as the ‘ Books for Africa’, based in the United States of America cover all subjects offered in primary and secondary schools, as well as ‘A’ Level.

Donating the books to the proprietress of Standard Foundation Schools, Mrs. Rabi Ado-Tenebe, the zonal chairman of Lions

International, Zone 10, District 404A1 of Asaba, Chief Monday Onyeme said, the choice of Kaduna was informed by the need to extend the club’s philanthropist gesture to the northern part of Nigeria.

He said the donation was apt, especially at a time when a rebellion group was declaring war against western education in northern Nigeria.

According to him, “This type of gesture has been going on in the southern part of Nigeria for a very long time. Just recently, we

built and equipped a library for a secondary school in Delta state, but we felt we should not restrict our operation to the south alone; that is why we are here.

“We are not just going to stop in Kaduna; we will soon go to Kano, Jigawa, Borno, Adamawa and other parts of the North, to show that education is the best legacy we can give our children”, he said.
