Lobi Stars captain, Solomon Kwambe has apologised to the government and good people of Benue State for the relegation of the states owned club from the elite Nigeria Premier Footb all League, NPFL.
Lobi Stars were the first team to be relegated from the league this following years of administrative confusion, players unrest and incessant change of administration.
The club scandalously lost their last two matches conceding eight goals against their opponents. First was a 2-4 home defeat against Rangers before they suffered another 4-0 loss against Kwara United on Sunday.
Kwambe in his apology, said the team was disappointed with the outcome of their league campaign and appealed to the fans not to turn their acks on the team at the critical stage.
“With a heavy heart and deep sense of humility, I write to tender my unreserved apology on behalf of myself, my teammates, and the entire Lobi Stars Football Club for the painful outcome of our 2024/2025 season, which saw our beloved club relegated from the Nigeria Premier Football League.
“This is not the result we worked for, prayed for, or expected. We understand the pride Lobi Stars brings to Benue State and the weight of responsibility we carry each time we wear the jersey. Unfortunately, despite our efforts and sacrifices, we fell short of the expectations and standards that this great club and our loyal supporters deserve.
“To the fans who stood by us in the sun and rain, chanting and cheering from the stands or afar, we are sincerely sorry. To the government, stakeholders, and every Benue indigene who believed in us, we owe you more than apologies we owe you redemption.
“We accept full responsibility for our failings. The pain of relegation is one we carry deeply in our hearts. However, we want to assure you that this is not the end. As players and ambassadors of Benue football, we are committed to fighting our way back, rebuilding with humility, and restoring the pride of the Aper Aku Stadium.
“Let this disappointment fuel a new era of discipline, unity, and determination. We ask for your forgiveness, and more importantly, your continued support as we begin the journey back to where Lobi Stars truly belongs at the top,” he said.
Lobi Stars used three different venues as their home rounds during the ongoing 2024/2025 NPFL season including their current adopted home, Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.
