Local security operatives attached to a task force outfit code named ‘operation Farauta’ have allegedly tortured a 17-year-old senior secondary student, Abdullahi Tukur Abba in Yola, to death.
Late Abba, an SS 2 student was arrested by the operation Farauta’ on 5th August for allegedly stealing a mobile phone from a neighbor, an allegation he denied vehemently but was tortured to stupor by the security personnel.
The said neighbour lodged a complaint with the task force over the missing phone which the task force were said to have allegedly beaten him to a stupor before he was admitted at the Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital, Yola.
Late Abba was confirmed dead by the hospital authorities yesterday (Wednesday) after being in a critical state of coma.
Counsel for the family of the deceased, Barrister Abubakar Hamman Didam told the media that Abba died after spending four days in a coma.
When contacted, the police spokesman in the state, Sulaiman Nguroje, a deputy superintendent of police, confirmed the incident, saying the command had launched an investigation into the case and would ensure justice prevails.
