By Andrew Oota

Senate has mandated it’s standing committee on Establishment and public service to investigate the raising incidences of lopsidedness and emerging infractions in the recruitment and deployment of officers by the federal civil service commission.

This resolution was upon a motion of urgent national importance by Senator Titus Zam (Benue North West) who expressed concerns that the ongoing situation at the service is not only a counter productive malady to favour certain groups but also inconsistent with the commission’s vision .

According to senator Zam, the current development “seems to have crept into the commission as allegations of illegal recruitment or employment into the service is been reported”.

Describing as “regrettable “, senator Zam said,”this debilitating syndrome has so permeated the ministries, departments and agencies that virtually no ministry seems to be insulated from this ugly trend”

Justifying his allegations of sleaze in the civil service , the senator quoted the Head of Service of the Federation’s outcry of July 2023 where he alleged that 1020 illegal employed staff with over 300 employment letters .

According to him , his Benue North West Senatorial district is one of the marginalized and under represented in Nigeria .

He expressed shock that other states and senatorial districts would dominate others in appointment at all levels .
