The Minister of Sports and National Sports commission (NSC) Dr Tammy Danagogo has said that the immediate past president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Alhaji Aminu Maigari contravene an agreement reached before yesterday congress.
Addressing newsmen yesterday at the General Congress in Abuja, Danagogo, said he had met with Aminu Maigari and the Mike Umeh-led group on Sunday in the presence of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim and resolved that a non-elective congress takes place in Abuja yesterday to empower the electoral committee and give opportunity to other persons who were being disenfracies to contest.
He said Aminu Maigari, who tenure expired on Monday also agreed not to contest the election.
“Maigari had agreed not to contest, the meeting I had with him and others aggrieved members, he has even resigned from his position two week ago, I was surprise to seen Maigari changed all what we agreed, “The minister said.
He charged the congress to ensure that they put to an end the lingering crisis, he said he ready to work who emerge as the NFF president.
The minister insisted that he has no candidate for the election but regretted the altitudes of individual who holding the nation’s football to ramsom for selfish interest.
Although, Maigari was arrested yesterday but was later released, were NFF general secretary, Musa Amadu and former chairman technical committee of NFF, Christopher Green, who were all arrested early hours of yesterday in Abuja.
Following the arrest, 35 State FA chairmen loyal to Maigari opted out of the congress and held a separate meeting in Maitama to endorse a road map for NFF elective congress in Calabar, September 4.
