Refuse Management And Sanitation Board (REMASAB), Kano State, said it had received a report from the state’s ministry of health that the rate of malaria epidemic has dropped by at least 60% in the state.
This was disclosed by the board’s Managing Director, Engr. Abdullahi Shehu Bichi during an interview with our reporter in his office yesterday.
“ Our state has recorded considerable achievement in the area of combating malaria epidemic. We have even received a report from the ministry of health that the rate of malaria epidemic has reduced to at least 60%. The rate of people attending the state’s hospitals for treatment of the killer disease has also reduced to 60%, he said.
The Managing Director maintained that the drop in the disease was as a result of the commitment of the present administration to combat malaria in the state through spray and fumigation.
He added that the board’s Vector Control Section, responsible for spray and fumigation, daily goes round the eight metropolitan Local Government Areas to spray and fumigate the areas.
“ This drop in the malaria disease is as a result of commitment of the state governor, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to combat the disease in the state. Our Vector Control Section goes around these eight metropolitan Local Government Areas to spray in the drains, refuse dumps and other mosquito habitats. Other Local Governments outside the metropolis can come to us and request for the spray and fumigation. Then we will send our team to do that for them. “ He said
“ We spray chemical oils in the morning to kill all the eggs that might have been produced by the mosquitoes. In the evening, we go and fumigate the areas with gasses in the evening to kill the mosquitoes around streets.”
