Malnutrition: NASSI lauds Gov. Namadi for empowering 600 women

The Nigerian Association of Small Scale Industrialists (NASSI) Dutse branch, has commended Jigawa state governor, Malam Umar Namadi for providing training and support grants to 600 women on the production Tom Brown to tackle malnutrition.

The commendation was made by the Jigawa state Secretary of the association, comrade Dallami Haladu Shuaibu during the executive meeting of the association held at NASSI Secretariat Dutse.

Comrade Shuaibu, who described the effort as economic empowerment through boosting SMEs aimed to fight against child malnutrition and reduce stunting rate in the state.

According to him, Tom brown production is one of the most sustainable mechanisms to address societal challenges, particularly in the nutrition sector.

He said, the effort,  educates nursing mothers and child bearing age women on how to prepare balanced diets for children using locally available foods, tailored to their age known as the “Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF)  program.

“To further strengthen the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), Governor Malam Umar Namadi approved the training of 600 women in producing “Tom Brown”” a locally sourced nutritional formula that serves as an effective alternative for preventing and  treating moderately malnourished children” he said.

The Secretary  added that, the initiative also offers economic empowerment, enabling trained women to generate income and even employ others.

He disclosed that each of the  600 beneficiaries received supporting funds, packages, including sealing machines and raw materials, to begin local production.

Comrade Shuaibu, who said NASSI will monitor the program added that, state government had equally directed local government chairmen to collaborate with state Primary Healthcare Agency for purchasing the commodities directly from the trained women.

He however, described governor Namadi as an epitome of good governance, this initiative also underscore his commitment to the survival and wellbeing of children women and entire people of the state.
