Man, 20, docked over theft

One Ugochukwu Shita, 20, has appeared in an Abuja Grade 1 Area court in Kado, for alleged stealing of his friend’s belongings.

According to the prosecutor, Sgt. Simeon Ibrahim, told the court that on June 31, Mr Eghomi Endurance, a labourer, lodged a report about Shita at the Utako Police Station.

He said that the complainant, of Utako Village, Abuja, told the police that the accused, on June 30, stole his belongings from the hotel room where they both slept.

`”He alleged that Shita came with the intention to steal from him,’’ Ibrahim said.

He said that because it was too late to go home after work, the complainant, the accused and two others slept in one room in a Guest house in Utako Village.

Ibrahim said that when the complainant woke up, he could not find the accused, adding that he found out that his sandals, phone valued at N10, 800 and N2,000 cash were stolen.

He added that on July 5, the accused was seen putting on the stolen sandals.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 288 of the Penal Code, which stipulates a maximum of seven years in prison if found guilty.

The accused however pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of theft.

The presiding officer, Mr. Abubakar Sadiqu, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one reliable surety in like sum.
