An Ojokoro Senior Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, on Thursday sentenced a 30-year-old unemployed man to three months’ imprisonment, for burglary and theft.

The defendant, Fatai Olasunkanmi, was sentenced following his guilty plea to the two-count charge offence before Magistrate A. O. Layinka.

“Upon admission of the facts to the two-count charge offence, the defendant is hereby found guilty as charged,” Magistrate Layinka said.

She added that although the defendant had no criminal record, but he will be made to serve as deterrent to others with the intention of stealing.

She, however, asked the defendant if he had anything to say and he immediately begged the court for mercy. She then sentenced the defendant to three months imprisonment.

The prosecutor, Insp Lugard Ahonle, while stating the facts of the case, said that Olasunkanmi committed the offences on Nov. 1, 2014 at No. 4, Baale Animashaun St., Alakuko, Lagos. at 11.00 p.m.

“Olasunkanmi broke into a shop belonging to one Mrs Olaide Adejumo and stole goods valued at N500, 000”, he said.

Ahonle added that the defendant was caught by the vigilante group at the area and he was taken to the police station, where he made a confessional statement and signed.

He said the offences contravened Sections 285 and 307 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos state, 2011. (NAN)
