Man hits 4-year old Nigerian to death in Abidjan

Date:

A four-year old Nigerian, Kennedy Nwariwe, has been hit to death by a man suspected to be insane in Portbouet, a sub-urban settlement of Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire’s economic capital.

The victim’s father, Mr. Andrew Nwariwe, said the incident happened in a church premise, after the boy left the auditorium to play with other kids outside.

“I did not know that he has left the church hall, it was when we heard noise outside that I saw it was my child.

“With the assistance of some persons, we immediately rushed him to the hospital where he was confirmed dead,’’ he said.

According to eyewitnesses, the man, who attacked the children, grabbed late Nwariwe’s two legs and hit his head severally on a wall. They said it took the intervention of some daring youths to get the little boy off the man’s grip.

According to them, Nwariwe became instantly lifeless while his head got seriously swollen due to the attack.

Reacting on the incident, the President of the Nigerian Community in Cote d’Ivoire, Mr. Karrem Nasiru, described it as unfortunate.

He urged Nigerians in the country to be mindful of the movement of their children and wards in public places.

“We are in a foreign land; we need to be careful, we need to avoid putting our children and wards into unnecessary dangers,’’ he said. (NAN)
