Man jailed 31 months for conspiracy, theft in Yobe

A Senior Magistrate Court 1 in Damaturu, Yobe state, has sentenced a man, Samaila Suleiman, to 31 months imprisonment on three count charges of criminal conspiracy, trespass and theft.
Police prosecutor, Moses Tunjini told the court that the case was reported at the police ‘C’ division jointly by Hadiza Baba Idris, Maina Ba’aji and Aisha Idris Gimba, all of state low-cost housing estate, Damaturu.
He told the court that the complainants reported that the accused person, Samaila Suleiman, of Sabon Peggi ward, Damaturu, conspired with one Mohammed Usman, aka Halar of Pompomari ward, Damaturu, now at large, and stole six pieces of handsets of different types.
He told the court that the offence committed by the accused persons contradicts and is punishable under sections 97, 348, and 287 of the penal code law.
When the charges were read out to him, Samaila Suleiman, in court, he pleaded guilty to all the charges but also pleaded for leniency.
The presiding judge, Asiya Abubakar, satisfied that prosecution has proved the charges against the accused person beyond reasonable doubt, he convicted the accused person and sentenced him to 31 months imprisonment with no option of fine.
