Marine accidents panel summits findings to minister

The board of inquiry saddled with the responsibility of marine accident involving Greek flagged bulk carrier ‘MV Niki C’ and a motor tanker ‘MT Charon on 21st December 2013 in Lagos and accident involving ‘MT Elixir and MT Tank on October 2015 along the terminal (FPSO) Warri, Delta state summited it reports yesterday to the Minister of Transportation , Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
Presenting the reports to the minister, the Secretary of the Committee Emmanuel Ibrahim Swanta said that the committee was asked to investigate and establish the circumstances that led to the accidents and investigate the owner and chatterers of the vessels as well as those who may have connection with the vessels.
Swanta who represented the committee president, Adebisi Femi Segun at the event, said that the committee was also asked to identify and cross examine the crew members on board at the time of the incidents and investigate the actual crew members on board the days the incidents occurred with a view to determining the veracity of the report on the dead persons.
While receiving the reports, the minister who was represented by the Director of Maritime Safety and Security thanked the committee for its commitment and thorough job in spite of the challenges therein He appreciated them for their efforts put together with sincerity and promised that the ministry will go through the reports for necessary action.
