The Al Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Katsina State, Aminu Bello Masari, has criticized the government of the incumbent governor, Shehu Shema, for not being able to provide leadership in the state, even as he said his government would revive agriculture and education in the state.
Speaking in Abuja during a dinner in his honour, which was organized by the Katsina professionals, he condemned the recent WAEC result for the state, saying that if the status quo is maintained, the state would not be able to produce graduates in the future.
According to him, “If you look at Katsina State’s WAEC results this year, out of the over 43,500 who sat for the examination, only 4, 500, or if you like, 10.2 percent got five credits or above that would enable them pursue higher education or for them to be admitted into universities. Therefore, in the next four to five years, it would be hard to see graduates of Katsina State. This is what it means.
“But what is responsible for all this educational decay in our state? It is the leadership failure. Government, with necessary commitment, could have saved the situation and in doing that, there will be the creation of job opportunities for our indigenes.
“If you invest in education, all these drug addicts that we see on the streets, you won’t see them again, because we are responsible in making them what they are. If government had provided an enabling environment, provide them with sound education, they would have been productive to the state”, he added.
Speaking further, he disclosed that his government would focus on reviving agriculture and education in the state, saying “Katsina State has produced two Presidents in this country; it has produced many other prominent federal officers. What led them to have reached these coveted positions? It is education. It played a key role in producing national leaders from Katsina and that is why we are going to prioritize education”.
