The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mr. Saleh Dunoma has described the Nigeria Aviation Master Plan as a paradigm shift in the formulation of aviation policies and development agenda.
He said the document put together a few years back serves as a compass to how the industry will be position for greater efficiency in infrastructural development, upgrade of technical and navigational equipment as well policy and regulatory oversight.
Dunoma, who spoke at the 20th annual edition of the League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC), seminar in Lagos explained that the tenets of the document will be pursue to ensure the Nigeria aviation is position to compete with those of other climes.
The FAAN MD, who was represented by the Director of Maintenance and Engineering, Mr. Oluwafemi Ogunode remarked that “never before have aviation policies in the country made such immediate impact on the airport landscape and the economy than we are witnessing today”.
He acknowledged the contributions of the league in shaping and setting agenda for the industry explaining that over the years, the platform has brought about massive turnaround in the sector through robust and fruitful deliberations and the communication of ideas and facts about developments in the industry.
He said “There is no doubt that most policies in the country’s aviation industry, over the years, have been influenced, directly or otherwise, by observations, contributions or resolutions made at the LAAC seminar by experts invited to brainstorm on ways of moving the industry forward.”
Chairman of LAAC, Chukwuemeka Iwelumo, commended the efforts of stakeholders in moving the industry forward but said more efforts needed to be made so that the country could take her rightful place in the industry globally.
The seminar with the theme “Aviation Infrastructure and Policy as Stimulus for Economic Growth in Nigeria” attracted aviation stakeholders from government agencies, labour unions and airline operators who all had robust interactive sessions.
