The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire has said that Nigerian Medical Experts in Diaspora have been engaged to help revamp the country’s health sector.
Dr. Osagie stated this in Abuja, on Monday, at the bi-monthly media engagement of the ministry, supported by the Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN).
He said the experts will support the country in areas of knowledge and skills transfer in various fields of medicine to strengthen health care service delivery.
At the programme attended by Head of Agencies and Directors in the Ministry, the minister explained that the activity is as overseen by the Public Private Partnership (PPP),Diaspora Department of the Ministry.
He opined that the programme is currently being piloted at various universities in the country.
“This programme is currently ongoing at the University of Enugu Teaching Hospital, University of Abuja Teaching Hospital and the University of Benin Teaching Hospital.
“We are working assiduously with partners to ensure the best for the health sector in the country”.
Also speaking, the National Coordinator of National Tuberculosis, Buruli Ulcer and Leprosy Control Program (NTBLCP), Dr. Chukwuma Anyaike revealed that Nigeria has currently declared an emergency in childhood TB following poor case reporting which currently stands at 6 percent.
He called on major stakeholders in the country to invest towards addressing the various challenges in the country.
