The The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA),said the regulations in the area of medical waste will soon be ready.
The Director General/chief executive of NESREA, Prof Aliyu Jauro made the disclosure recently in Abuja, saying that “the agency has different types of waste such as e-waste, medical waste, solid and liquid waste but our regulations in the area of medical waste will soon be available.
He said “NESREA being an agency of the federal ministry of environment has 33 environmental regulations that deals with waste management, reiterating that the agency would fully implement the regulations in a bid to resolve problems associated with poor waste management”.
Prof.Jauro assured to address rampant desertification caused by incessant felling of trees, he vowed to sanction developers in the housing and construction sector building houses on waterways.
He lamented that building on waterways and dumping of refuse on the drainages were part of the major problems that contributed to flooding in the country.
“If you go to most of our cities, you will discover that resident’s dump refuse on water channels and during heavy rains, the refuse will block the water channels and lead to flooding”.
