Menstrual Hygiene Day: Group sensitizes school girls

As the world celebrated Menstrual Hygiene Day , a non govermental organization, Centre for Water and Environmental Development (CWED) organized a menstrual hygiene sensitization talk for girls selected from seven secondary schools in Kaduna State.
The sensitization programme with the theme; ‘Empowering women and girls through menstrual hygiene’ was basically to introduce the girls to ways of maintaining a proper hygiene prior, during and after their menstraution.
According to the project coordinator of CWED, Doris Makama, poor menstrual hygiene has caused alot of diseases among the girl child, hence the need to create awareness and bring girls from few schools together to equip them with the knowledge on ways of ensuring and maintaining a proper menstrual hygiene culture.
Earlier, Dr. Yusra Muktar who spoke on the theme of the programme, took the participants, particularly the girls on various steps of ensuring an hygiene menstraution and other things they need to know to live healthy.
According to her, menstraution is a sign of fertility in any woman and should not be seen as a disease.
Also speaking, Mr Timeyin Uwejamomere who is the Chief of Party of Development Innovations Group which is a Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) coordination project also enjoined the participating girls to also pass the message across to their other students that menstraution is good for women and it’s not a disease while stressing that maintaining an hygiene menstraul period is imperative.
