The Pro-People Security and Development Think Tank, has commissioned the
Nigerian military for its professionalism, adherence to human rights, and operational successes in combating terrorism and insecurity.

The group gave the commendation during a Peace and Development rally on Monday in Masaka, Nasarawa State where community leaders, civil society actors, and local residents gathered to advocate for security, social cohesion, and community-driven development.

The convener, Micheal Adamu emphasized the need for security operations to balance confronting violent threats with safeguarding civilian lives.

He particularly commended the Armed Forces for neutralizing terrorist leaders and rescuing kidnapped individuals across the country, citing the recent successful operation in Kubwa/Bwari, which resulted in the safe recovery of several victims.

Adamu also welcomed the proposed increment in soldiers’ salaries, describing it as a development that will boost troop morale and further enhance their operational effectiveness.

He highlighted that improvements in human rights training and accountability mechanisms within the military have contributed to a more disciplined operational environment.

He stressed that human security is inseparable from development, calling for greater investment in programs addressing poverty, unemployment, and social exclusion—factors often exploited by violent groups. Participants at the rally echoed these sentiments, advocating for stronger community engagement, dialogue, and collaboration with security agencies as essential tools for preventing violence and fostering national unity.

The think tank praised the leadership of Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, noting that reforms under his stewardship have strengthened operational discipline and public confidence in military operations. The organization emphasized that the military’s commitment to human rights and civilian protection demonstrates an understanding that security and respect for fundamental freedoms are complementary objectives.
