The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, and the Acting Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Chris Maiyaki, are expected as special guests of honor at the 2024 Institute of Educational Leadership Practitioners of Nigeria (IELPN) international conference.
The conference, to be held at the National University Commission, will feature presentations on project-based and experimental learning, cultivating critical thinking and problem-solving skills for the modern world, and networking.
“Mindfulness leadership and team-building driven decision-making for education leaders, sustainable education leadership, cybersecurity in educational institutions, and equity and inclusion in education” are among the topics to be covered.
Briefing newsmen ahead of the conference ,August,14-15, the Registrar and Chief Executive of the institute,Dr. Taiwo Olufunmilayo Olusa, said the conference will focus on project-based and experimental learning to cultivate critical thinking and problem-solving skills for students in the 21st century.
Olusa explained that the conference theme, “Revolutionizing Education: Harnessing Innovative Pedagogies and Leadership for 21st Century Students,” emphasizes the importance of leadership development in education.
“We believe that effective leadership is essential for student success,” she said.
“In this conference, we’ll focus on equipping teachers and instructors, who have the closest relationships with students, with the knowledge and skills to be effective mentors.”
She said the conference aims to improve the overall well-being of students by providing professional development opportunities for educators and policymakers.
“By equipping teachers with the latest knowledge and strategies, we can ensure students have a better understanding of the subjects they are learning,” Olusa said.
“This will empower them to use their knowledge to benefit themselves and their communities.”
The institute encourages educational organizations to send staff to the conference to benefit from professional development opportunities.
The Chairman of the planning committee, Rotimi Jiboku, said they expect participants from all over the country, and some delegates are already making travel plans to attend the conference.
He noted that this year’s conference will be held in Abuja, a change from last year’s location in Port Harcourt.
“Keynote speakers will include Prof. Paulinus Chijoke Okwelle, the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education, and Dr. Onwe Paul, an internationally certified mental health and addiction professional from Kampala, Uganda.”
On his part, planning committee member, Udele James, explained that the conference aimed revolutionised education in Nigeria
He said the conference theme is “Revolutionizing Education,” which will encourage participants to develop new and different approaches to teaching methods. The conference will provide opportunities for attendees to relearn and learn many new things.,”
