The FCT Minister ,Malam Muhammad Musa Bello has called for a stronger collaboration between the FCT Administration and the Judiciary, for the purpose of eradicating criminalities in FCT in particular and the nation at large, as the role of judiciary is highly indispensable for peace and security of the Territory.
Bello noted that the rapid population growth of the FCT, has inevitably led to the need for judicial services, especially, for criminal cases.
He made this point while commissioning Garki Division of the FCT High Court located at No.1 Ikot Ekpene Close, off Emeka Anyaoku Road, Area Eleven, Garki-Abuja.
Bello, who was represented by the FCT Permanent Secretary, Olusade Adesola, said: “ The need for quick dispensation of justice as a deterrent to others who might have unwholesome intentions within the Territory is imperative. We therefore, call for the collaboration of the Judiciary in this regard, he explained”.
“The role of the Judiciary in our fight against crime and criminality cannot be overstated and the rapid population growth of the FCT, has inevitably led to the need for judicial services, especially, for criminal cases.
Also, the Minister commended Justice Husseini Yusuf and the entire FCT Judiciary for taking the bold step and initiative to establish the Garki Division of the FCT High Court, expressed confidence that the new Division of the Court will further improve the efficiency of the Court in the discharge of its responsibilities.
He praised the FCT Judiciary for assembling the best crop of judicial officers in the country over the years as well maintaining consistent quality service delivery to the general public.
According to him: “When the intention of the Court to establish the Garki Division was first presented to us, we did not hesitate to give the project the full support of the FCT Administration, taking into cognizance the exponential growth of the nation’s capital and the increasing need for judicial services by the residents.
“It is my firm believe that this move will enhance the efficiency of the Court in carrying out its responsibilities.
“My Lords, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, the FCT Judiciary prides itself not only in the quality of its personnel, but also in the quality of services rendered to members of the public. We have been fortunate in the FCT to have some of the best judicial officers in the country serving here.”
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court, Justice Husseini Yusuf said the establishment of the Garki Division of the High Court of FCT was in keeping faith with the constitutional mandate of the Court to provide access to justice to all manners of men and institutions and also to promote the rule of law and good governance in the Federal Capital Territory.
Justifying the strategic choice of sighting a division of the Court in Garki, the Chief of the FCT High Court, explained that the move is aimed at bringing access to justice to the doorsteps of one of the most populated and oldest districts in the nation’s capital city.
