The member of the House of Representatives, representing AMAC/ Bwari Federal Constituency, Hon. Joshua Chinedu Obika, has stressed the need to upgrade the status of FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD) to an agency, as the FCT requires a world-standard emergency management body.
Obika also announced his intention to move a motion on the floor of the green chambers seeking to give FEMD, the legal backing to function as an agency.
He spoke when he received the FEMD management team led by its Acting Director General, Engr. Abdulrahman Mohammed in his office, according to a press release from FEMD’s Head Public Affairs, Nkechi Isa.
He said: “This legislation will give the department legal backing to function as an agency.
“ I intend to move the motion this year. It would be a transparent process. I will consult the FCT committee and Area council auxiliary committee.”
Earlier, the FEMD boss Engr. Abdulrahman explained that the visit was in fulfillment of a promise made to the lawmaker during his visit to the recent incident site of a collapsed building l, at Sabon Lugbe, Airport Road in Abuja.
He commended the lawmaker for his commitment to improving the lives of FCT residents through legislation.
