Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal has unveiled
Environmental Health Council of Nigeria (EHCON) Electronic Data Centre yesterday in Abuja.
He said the event was a major milestone and significant step to forward shared commitment of environmental health, sustainability and National development.
“The unveiling of this state of the art electronic data centre is a testament to our collective ambition to drive data centric and
evidence based decision making in environmental health.
He said the facility is set to revolutionize environmental health management in Nigeria.
He noted that the centre will provide a centralized platform to gather, store, and manage environmental health data, ensuring that stakeholders across all levels—federal, state, and local government have access to reliable and up-to-date information.
The minister also mentioned some of the key benefits and transformative potentials of this Data Centre which includes: “ Data Integration and Accessibility, real-time monitoring and early warning systems, policy formulation and research and capacity building innovation and and foster collaboration with international partners.
According to him, “we recognize the critical role of technology and data in achieving our goals, and we are committed to supporting platforms such as this that empower institutions like EHCON to thrive.”
He emphasized that it is important to acknowledge the need for inclusive action. “Our vision for environmental sustainability requires the collective efforts of government agencies, private sector actors, civil society, and every Nigerian citizen.
“This Data Centre is not just a tool for EHCON, it is a resource for the nation, designed to support all stakeholders in making informed decisions that safeguard our environment and promote public health”, he stated .
Similarly, National Project Coordinator, ACReSAL, Abdulhamid Umar, disclosed that the project is designed to improved the livelihood of Nigerians and to identify MDA’s that are people oriented.
He said the investment project should be sustained because shadow investment and shadow authenticators will be coming from Washington to see.
“ The investment must serve its purpose, we believe that the Minister of environment will ensure that the project is sustained for the good of Nigeria .
Umar stated that “it is our hope that the project will not only serve this generation but generations yet on born to manage it .
“Human management of the project is desires”.
The Registrar of Environmental Health Council of Nigeria, Yakubu Baba, said that , the project is a one stop shop that has so many benefits and it’s ability to create a workflow that reduces the hardship faced by disabled servants.
He also noted that the centre will register practitioners , give liences and provide additional value chain to the body .
“ The project is supported by world bank and the world bank is ready to support the project more because we are going to scale up the project as well”.
