The Federal Ministry of Science and Technology is to support the provision electricity and water supply in the University of Port Harcourt.
The Minister of Science and Technology Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu said this when the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman Governing Council, University of Port Harcourt, Prof. Mvendaiga Jibo led the management team of the University to pay courtesy call on him yesterday in Abuja.
Dr. Onu added that Universities play very important role in the area of innovation and said the Ministry will continue to support tertiary institutions, research institutes and the informal sector in their innovation drive.
He also charged research institutes to convert research results into products to stop massive importation into the country, He stressed that the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) an agency in the Ministry, is working on reverse engineering to ensure that product analysis are done in the country by providing good laboratories.
Earlier, the Pro-chancellor and Chairman Governing Council, University of Port Harcourt, Prof. Mvendaiga Jibo said the Minister has showed clear commitment to the unity of the country and commended his effort in solving the electricity and water needs of the University of Port Harcourt.
He also commended the Minister for laying a solid foundation as the pioneering Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Port Harcourt.
