Saratu Jibo, a 37-year-old Nigerian woman who was reported missing after arriving in Qatar, has been located at a hospital in Doha following a brief security hold by local officials.
Jibo had departed Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos aboard a Qatar Airways flight.
Concerns over her safety arose on Friday when her family lost contact with her shortly after landing, prompting her brother, Jonathan Jibo, to raise a public alarm.
Updating the public on Sunday, Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), confirmed that Jibo is safe and has since reconnected with her family.
Surveillance footage from Hamad International Airport confirmed that Jibo arrived safely, retrieved her luggage, and exited the terminal.
Tem Qatari authorities temporarily withheld her mobile phone and international passport at customs to resolve routine clearance issues, rendering her temporarily unable to communicate.
Following her release by customs, Jibo fell ill at the airport and was transported to a local hospital for medical attention.
The resolution involved coordinated efforts by the NCAA, the Nigerian Embassy in Doha, Qatar Airways, and local assistance from Qatar-based Nigerian resident Yusuf Adesoga.
Achimugu confirmed that Jibo has received all her belongings and cleared all entry requirements.
The family expressed gratitude to the relevant aviation agencies and diplomatic officers for their prompt intervention.
