Fiery Catholic Priest and ardent Rangers FC of Enugu supporter, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka has given the management of the Flying Antelopes, two weeks to refund him his N2 million donation he made to the players after they lifted the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL, diadem last year.
Fr. Mbaka frowned at the management for failing to disburse the money among the players as he directed them last year when the team and its management did thanksgiving in his parish in Emene after winning the trophy.
Apart from the none sharing of the money to the players, Father Mbaka is said to be angry with Rangers’ resort to fetish practices for good luck in their matches last season.
Allegations are rift that the club’s supporters sprinkled the blood of goat and pigeons on the pitch for luck before there matches in the just concluded NPFL season.
However, members of the dissolved board have dismissed the allegations.
But source close to Mbaka said: “He has given the dissolved management two weeks to give him back the money, so that he could share the money to the players himself.”
Rangers had a dismal 2017 season. They crashed out in the preliminary round matches of the 2017 CAF Champions League.
The Flying Antelopes ended last season miserably at 13th position, barely avoiding relegation at the end of the season. They played a total of 38 matches, won 14, drew 11 and lost 13.
This necessitated the sponsor of the club, Government of Enugu State, under Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to dissolve the management board and constitute new one to chat a new direction for the club ahead of 2017/18 NPFL season.
