Date:

From Uche Nnorom, Makurdi

Former Minister of Interior and Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District,Comrade Abba Moro yesterday closed his case at the National/State Houses of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Makurdi, urging the court to dismiss the petition filed by former Deputy Governor of Benue State Chief Steven Lawani of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Counsel to Sen. Moro, Ken. Ikonne SAN did not call any witness but merely tendered the final collated result as well as declaration forms for the 2019 senatorial election in the District.
Barr. Ikonne, SAN averred that there are several defects on Lawani’s petition, adding that it is discredited in many respects.
Counsel to the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP barr. C. T. Mue told the tribunal that he would call a witness on July 27 while the Independent National Electoral Commission’s witness is to testify on July 29.
The petitioner’s counsel, Mr Sunday Okpale, had presented 13 witnesses including the petitioner and former deputy governor of Benue state, Chief Steven Lawani,
It should be noted that during the proceeding, the tribunal rejected two(2)applications from the petitioner to include more witnesses in the petition as well as the amendment of a witness statement on the grounds that such applications would amount to an amendment in the petition after it had been filed for 21 days.
The case has been adjourned to July 27 for further hearing.
