The wife of the Vice -President, Hajiya Amina Sambo has called on Nigerian women to utilize their role as mothers to ensure that peace is enshrined at whatever levels of governance they find themselves and contribute their quota to building a virile nation.
Speaking as the Special Guest of Honour at the opening ceremony of the Annual Conference of the Northern Baptist Pastors’ wives in Kaduna, said, women by their creation are natural peace-lovers and peace-makers, “women are more sensitive, compassionate to the well-being of others than their men counterparts.
“Women are more cooperative and generally possess a temperament that makes peace-building and conflict resolution achievable and sustainable”.
Represented at the occasion, a Presidential committee member on the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment program (SURE-P), Barrister Halima Alfa, Hajia Sambo cited examples of roles played by women in restoring peace in some troubled countries and stressed that such can be replicated in addressing the insecurity challenges of Nigeria.
According to her, “In recent times, the contribution of women to the ECOWAS mediation efforts that led to the resolution of the civil war and political crisis in Liberia and Sierra Leone have been particularly noteworthy.”
She stressed that if other women have achieved tremendously is restoring peace in other countries, it will be much more easier for pastors wives, who are spouses of men of God, who guide and shepherd
the society unto the right path to use their position in ensuring that ace reigns supreme in the society.
Speaking also, Kaduna state first lady Hajiya Fatima Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, represented by the wife of the state Deputy Governor Mrs. Naomi Nuhu Bajoga urged Nigeria women to relent in praying for the peace of
the nation and for God to intervene in the present Security Challenges bedeviling the nation.
Speaking on the theme of the conference: “The Pastor’s wife; an intelligent and wise woman” the guest speaker Mrs. Comfort
Idowu-Fearon further stressed that pastor’s wives are expected to be servants of the people and women of integrity, who should be worthy of respect.
She emphasized that if peace must be achieved in Northern Nigeria and the country at large, people must join hands together; ensure that there is justice and fairness in all that we do regardless of their religious differences.
