Mubi: We transact business with Boko Haram insurgents, says resident

President of Mubi local government area of Adamawa state, which was attacked by insurgents, has revealed that normalcy has gradually returned to the area.

He said that the remaining people presently staying in Mubi town have started transacting business with the militant Boko Haram members, who had captured the second largest town in the state Friday, last week.

The resident who disclosed this on the Hausa Service of the BBC, monitored in Jos, also said many business activities are now going on smoothly as shops and other business centers have been opened, adding that no problems are being encountered with the insurgents as everything is now back to normal.

The resident, who said this on the condition of anonymity, also revealed that most of the insurgents were originally residents of Mubi, explaining that their faces were familiar, adding that only few of them were visitors.

He said, “Many residents in Mubi are engaging in business transactions with the Boko Haram insurgents without any intimidation or harassment by the insurgents. They are seen everywhere within the city holding their sophisticated weapons. We also exchange greetings with them.

“And surprisingly, most of them (insurgents) are residents of Mubi. I saw some familiar faces; only few of them are visitors “, he added.

According to him, the residents revealed to them that they (insurgents) were 65 in number when the attack was launched , adding that they were able to succeed because they were on the right path.
