The National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has begun the reconstruction of the collapsed flood control embankment in Muye, Lapai LGA to rescue the farming from the annual flood disaster that have destroyed farm lands and other economic activities.

The Acting Managing Director of the N-HYPPADEC, Mr. JImoh Haruna Gabi while flagging off the project on River Gurara in Muye, said the construction would cost over N600 million.

He said aside the construction of the embankment, the commission would also reconstruct the access roads and reclaim the land that have been destroyed by the flooding.

Mr Gabi emphasized that the intention was to enable the farmers and fishermen regain footing and return to farming and fishing which has been their age long occupation.

He said the affected communities approached the  N-HYPPADEC through the House of Representative Member for Agaie/Lapai Federal Constituency, Adullahim Mahmud seeking intervention to find a lasting solution.

Speaking, the Member of House of Representative, Agaie/Lapai Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Abdullahi Mahmud said the project would go along way in restoring the economic fortunes of the farmers in the area.
