The Managing Director, National Hydro Electric Power Producing Areas Commission (N-HYPPADEC), Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa has urged the communities to cooperate and support for the success of the ongoing needs assessment exercise and community mapping scheme.
Yelwa made this known during his official visit to Wuya- Kede, in Mokwa local government area of Niger state to sensitized the people on the importance of the ongoing exercise in which some communities where left out last three years ago when it was first conducted.
The commission’s Managing Director, explained that the needs assessment and community mapping exercise will assist in knowing the needs obtain from them, community challenges and their priority, which will help the commission with the actual community needs, in order to intervene within the available resources.
He maintained that the commission remains optimistic, and expressed readiness to always provide short and long term interventions in alleviating the plight of the affected communities by the hydro electric power producing dams in the country that has resulted in lose of lives, properties, farmlands and livelihood.
He also called on the communities to provide the required and relevant information needed for the successful implementation of the exercise.
He however, pledged to provide seven hand pump boreholes for the seven village head communities out of the fifty one communities under Wuya-Kede Ward.
Yelwa, who described President Ahmed Bola Tinubu as a listening leader, was concerned on the overall development of Nigerians, sequel to the commission’s call directed for an immediate survey and assessment status of all the dams to ensure they will not poses threat to the host communities, make use for economic and agricultural developments.
He revealed that experience shown that due to lack adequate funds to solve their problems for quick intervention hence the need to embark on short time intervention with provision of building materials to identified upland to ensure their safety.
He added they will be trained on modern farming and fishing for better life.
He further disclosed that the benefiting seven villages with hand pump boreholes include; Wuya-Kede, Aligeta, Yijuwu, Dobe, Shekpa, Tsogi and Kpacita
Earlier, the District Head of Wuya-Kede in Mokwa local government area of Niger state, Alhaji Musa Abubakar expressed satisfaction with the N-HYPPADEC for the visit led by the Managing Director, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, said his community consist of 51 villages and advocated for more intervention projects in his domain.
He lamented over the impact of flooding over the years that had resulted to lost of lives, properties, farmlands, animals, schools and health care centers closed down as well as lack of portable drinking water due to annual flood deserved sympathy from all sundry.
Abubakar commended the commission’s numerous achievements recorded so far, while calling for its sustainability for the overall development of the entire communities under the N-HYPPADEC states of the federation.
