National Hydro Electric Power Producing Areas Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has set up mechanism through collaboration with its states for ensuring food security in the nation.
The N-HYPPADEC Managing Director, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa made this known during its second meeting with the 10 Commissioners of Agriculture from the commission’s state in Minna, Niger state capital.
He advocated for the use of improved and high-quality seedlings, promoting the adoption of small Power Tillers and encouraging viable processing and storage techniques such as threshers, solar dryers and portable cooling storage systems among others.
Sadiq Yelwa emphasized that it is going to be a technical collaboration to enhance food security through timely intervention as the commission will apply a pivotal role in supporting the states in their areas of comparative advantage and policy implementations.
The MD stated that the meeting serves as a follow-up to those experiences and aims to engage in thoughtful deliberations that will shape policies for the sustainable development of agriculture in the riverine communities, called for collective knowledge, experience and commitment in addressing their challenges in the states.
