NACHCARD calls for review of reduction in colleges overhead budget

The National Committee of the Heads of Colleges of Agriculture and Related Disciplines (NACHCARD) has called for immediate reversal of the reduction in the overhead budget of Colleges of Agriculture in the country.
NACHCARD made the call after its 58th regular meeting in Abuja were challenges facing the colleges across the country formed their main agenda.
The union “Categorically criticized the drastic reduction in the overhead budgets of the Colleges and observed that this has created serious hardships in the running of these Colleges. This needs to be urgently reversed,” part of the communique read.
In a ten-point communique issued at the end of the meeting, the union thanked the honourable minister of Agriculture and the Executive Secretary, Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN) in promoting outstanding policies to improve National Agricultural Research Systems through adopted villages, schools and extension activities to re-position the Ministry for effective food security in the country.
NACHCARD notes with appreciation the President’s offer of Peculiar Allowance to Teachers and urge that thus be extended to the Teaching Staff of Colleges of Agriculture and Related Disciplines.
Other decisions taken were appeal on the Ministry of Agriculture and ARCN to come up with a modality for a joint council for allied colleges towards reducing the bottlenecks for running multiple governing councils.
It also called for a synergy in the activities and collaboration between the Colleges, Research Institutes, ARCN and the Ministry in the area of training and capacity building.
The 58th edition of the NACHCARD head of colleges meeting was held At Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria Mabushi, Abuja.
