NANTMP appoints women co-ordinator, seeks autonomy

The National Executive Council (NEC) of the National Associaion of Nigeria Traditional Medicine Practitioners (NANTMP) has appointed Hajiya Nna Alfa Idrisu Edozhigi as the National Women Welfare Cor-ordinator in Nigeria, while calling on the Federal Ministry of Health to give an autonomy to the association to operate freely.
The National President of NANTMP, Alhaji (Dr.) Shaba Maikudi, who disclosed this while briefing the newsmen during the national congress held at Jeparo Hotel, Gwagwalada, Abuja.
He said his leadership would continue to partner with the Federal Ministry of Health, NIPRID, NNMDA, NAFDAC as well as some recognized institutions for the sake of training programmes throughout the nation.
He said the aim and objective of NANTMP was to promote the traditional medicine in Nigeria, disclosing that NANTMP was working assiduously in order to meet up with the World Health Organization (WHO) requirements in all ramifications.
This, he added that the leadership of the association had been working with the traditional medicine practitioners at the grassroots level to actualize their dream for Nigerians saying that the leadership of the association would bring various traditional medicine practitioners under one canopy.
Speaking on his achievements within one year, he said his administration had secured a permanent office for the association in Gwagwalada.
He added that one of the achievements recorded so far was that the association’s leadership had amended the constitution for the smooth running of NANTMP in Nigeria.
Maikudi revealed that the authority of the Federal Ministry of Health had created a unit called “Traditional Medicine Complementary and Alternative Unit”, proclaiming that the association had trained about 800 herbal practitioners across the six geo-political zones.
In an interview at the occasion, the National Women Welfare Co-ordinator, Hajiya Nna Alfa Idrisu Edozhigi thanked the leadership of NANTMP for appointing her as the Co-ordinator of the association.
Edozhigi said she would not hesitate to work alongside the National Executive Council of NANTMP to move the association forward.
