The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has advocated for the conversion of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) into the National Commission for Technical Education (NCTE).

This was contained in a statement signed by the President of the Association, Comrade Eshiofune Paul Oghayan and made available to the media in Kaduna, yesterday.

He stated that a dedicated commission for mono-technic and polytechnic education is long overdue and will ensure proper regulation, development, and funding of technical education in Nigeria.

As part of the President’s legacy, NAPS called for the immediate commencement of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Polytechnic in Abuja.

“The government should look for an institution to commence its operation without further delay, reinforcing your commitment to polytechnic education.”

The Association urged the presidency to halt the ongoing conversion of polytechnics into conventional universities and instead upgrade them into technology-based institutions awarding Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) degrees.

“This approach aligns with global best practices, preserves the uniqueness of polytechnic education, and fosters technological advancements in Nigeria.”

Furthermore, the Association congratulated President Tinubu on the occasion of his 73rd birthday, praying that the Almighty blesses him with good health, wisdom, long life, and strength to continue his selfless service to the Nigerian people.
