The Nigerian Army Resource Centre, NARC has charged graduates of the Leadership Skill Development Course 16 of 2026 to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the training to improve leadership, decision-making and productivity in their respective formations.
The charge was given at the graduation ceremony of the course held at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, where participants were commended for successfully completing the leadership development programme.
The Director General, NARC , Major General James Myam said the complexities of modern military operations, administration and logistics had made effective leadership skills increasingly important for commanders operating at the tactical level.
He identified critical thinking, emotional intelligence, mentorship, team building and coaching as essential competencies required to enhance commanders’ ability to make sound decisions during field engagements and battles.
According to him, the training was designed to equip participants with practical knowledge and competencies that would enable them to address operational, administrative and logistical challenges more effectively.
He noted that the Army Headquarters had continued to invest in leadership development as part of efforts to improve individual and organisational productivity.
He urged the graduates to deploy the knowledge gained from the course upon returning to their various units and formations.
The DG encouraged them to serve as change agents by applying the lessons learned to improve their work environments and mentoring personnel who did not have the opportunity to participate in the programme.
The speaker also commended the course coordinator, facilitators and resource persons for delivering the training modules, exercises and case studies, noting that their contributions were important to the success of the programme.
He expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu , for providing the resources and guidance required for the successful conduct of the course.
He also acknowledged the Board of Trustees of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre and other stakeholders for their continued support towards the centre’s activities and leadership development programmes.
The Chief of training Army, Major General Valentine Okoro has commended officers who completed its Leadership Skills Development Course, urging them to apply the knowledge gained during the programme to strengthen professionalism, critical thinking and adaptive leadership across their formations.
Major General Okoro who was represented by the Deputy Chief of Training Army, Brigadier General Moronfolu Shonibare highlighted the importance of critical thinking, emotional intelligence and adaptive leadership in enabling officers to make sound decisions and effectively manage changing operational environments.
He urged the graduates to share the knowledge and insights acquired during the training with their colleagues and personnel in their respective units, stressing the importance of extending the benefits of the programme beyond those who directly participated.
Presenting the highlights and outcomes of the programme, the course coordinator , Colonel CY Ofurumazi explained that Fifty-nine participants drawn from various units and organisations have successfully completed the Leadership Development Course 16 of 2026, organised to strengthen adaptive leadership and decision-making capabilities in joint and multi-agency operational environments.
He stated that the training focused on developing creativity, critical thinking, emotional intelligence and sound decision-making among participants.
According to him, the programme also sought to enhance their capacity to manage challenges arising from joint and multi-agency operations.
He noted that the curriculum covered a range of leadership subjects, including conflict management, teamwork and team building, coaching and mentoring, emotional intelligence, leadership in peace and wartime environments, as well as inter-agency cooperation, collaboration and coordination.
The course coordinator mentioned that the participants were also exposed to aspects of the Nigerian police justice system under the 1999 Constitution and the Armed Forces Act 2004, as well as Nigerian customs and traditions, with the objective of strengthening discipline and improving understanding of the broader operational environment.
