The three days warning strike called by the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), nationwide which ended Wednesday did not come into effect at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), as the leadership of the branch ordered its members to remain fully operational.
This was due to, the decision taken by the branch as a result of the recent bomb blasts which had attracted scores of casualties in the state.
According to Dr Iduh A. Andrew, a member of NARD at JUTH, the decision by the chapter to stay functional was fair because already the victims of the explosion were even admitted before NARD’s warning strike and they (victims) had to be urgently attended in order to save their lives.
He said, “I think it would be unfair to abandon the victims of the bomb blasts because we have already admitted them and as such we have to give them medical assistance.”
On whether JUTH as a branch will join the next indefinite strike, Andrew said, “If National Body calls on general strike, we are surely joining it because by then we have finished with the patients we have now.”
However, despite the preparation by the NARD to embark on general strike if government does not respond, people are still trooping to the hospital to receiving treatment
