Prominent members of the All Progressives Congress in Nasarawa State, Zamani Daniel and Ibrahim Tukur, have raised concerns over alleged plans to manipulate the party’s governorship primaries ahead of the exercise.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the party chieftains accused some officials in the state of being compromised, alleging intimidation of electoral officers and manipulation of the internal process.
The development comes amid reports that Governor Abdullahi Sule has endorsed Senator Ahmed Wadada as his preferred candidate for the forthcoming governorship contest.
Daniel and Tukur expressed concern that the governor’s position could undermine the credibility of the primaries and deny other aspirants a fair contest.
They called on the National Secretary of the APC and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene by deploying neutral electoral officers, rather than relying on state officials they accused of lacking neutrality.
The chieftains further alleged that party officials across different levels in the state were under pressure to align with the governor’s preferred candidate.
They claimed there were ongoing consultations and meetings aimed at influencing the outcome of the primaries, warning that such actions could damage internal democracy within the party.
According to them, the situation requires urgent intervention to ensure a transparent and credible selection process that reflects the will of party members.
