The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Danladi Jatau, has called on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC)in Nasarawa State to remain united and focused on the party’s collective goals following the conclusion of its primary elections.
Jatau made the appeal while reacting to the outcome of the APC primaries, which produced candidates for various elective positions ahead of future elections.
The Speaker described the exercise as one conducted in line with the timetable and guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC), noting that electoral contests inevitably produce both winners and losers.
He stressed that democracy requires participants to respect established procedures and accept outcomes in good faith, regardless of personal expectations.
“Political contests come with two possible outcomes, victory or defeat. Some of our colleagues were successful in the primaries, and I congratulate them on their emergence,” Jatau stated.
While acknowledging that some aspirants were dissatisfied with the results, he noted that they have the right to seek redress through the party’s internal mechanisms and other lawful channels.
According to him, such grievances should be handled through due process to preserve party harmony and strengthen democratic culture.
Reflecting on his personal experience, Jatau said he had accepted the outcome of the primaries with humility and faith, describing it as an act of God.
“For me, I have long cultivated the spirit of sportsmanship. I see what happened as the will of God, and I have accepted it wholeheartedly and in good faith,” he said.
The Speaker also expressed gratitude for the opportunities he has enjoyed throughout his political career, saying every stage of public service should be approached with appreciation and dignity.
He urged APC members and supporters across Nasarawa State to close ranks and work together in the interest of the party, emphasizing that unity would be critical as preparations gather momentum for future electoral contests.
Jatau’s remarks come amid post-primary reactions from aspirants across the state, with some accepting the results and others pursuing various avenues to challenge the outcomes.
