Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has passed into second reading a Bill for a Law to provide for free menstrual hygiene products for girls in the state public schools.
Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, the Speaker of the House announced the passage of the bill into second reading during the House plenary today in Lafia.
The Speaker who commended Hon. Hajarat Danyaro for sponsoring the Bill, added that it would go a long way in improving the hygienic condition of girls in schools and enhance their general health being.
“ I will commit this bill to the House Committee on Health, Education and Women Affairs with the exception of the Chairman, House Committee on Women Affairs.
“ The committees should work on the bill and submit its report on the 6th of August, 2024,” he said.
Earlier , Hon Hajarat Danyaro Ibrahim, Chairman, House Committee on Women Affairs and member representing Nasarawa Central constituency, explained that the Bill if passed would prevent the girls against cervical cancer.
“ As this bill if passed will also improve the hygienic condition of our female students in secondary schools,” she said.
The lawmaker further said the Bill if would help girls on the issue of blockage of their wombs.
In their contributions, Hon Larry Ven-Bawa, Hon Daniel Ogazi, Hon Mohammed Omadefu, Hon Yusuf Chunbaya, Rt. Hon Muhammad Oyanki among others all supported the Bill to scale second reading.
They said that the Bill if passed would improve the quality of learning among girls in schools
They also said that the bill if passed would reduce stigmatization when girls are in menstrual period among other outstanding.
