The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has passed a bill to establish the Nasarawa Urban and Rural Access Roads Authority (NURARA).
The new agency is tasked with the comprehensive management, development, rehabilitation, and maintenance of Class C and Class D roads across the state.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Dr. Danladi Jatau, announced the passage of the bill during plenary on Wednesday in Lafia, the state capital.
Speaking on the significance of the legislation, Dr. Jatau stated that the establishment of NURARA would significantly boost the state’s transport system and improve the quality of life for rural dwellers by ensuring better connectivity.
“A Bill for a Law to Establish the Nasarawa Urban and Rural Access Roads Authority (NURARA) for the purpose of the overall management, development, rehabilitation, reconstruction, and maintenance of Class C and Class D roads in the state, and for other matters connected therewith, is read for the third time and passed,” the Speaker declared.
He further emphasized that once the bill is assented to by Governor Abdullahi Sule, it will provide a structured framework for the construction and upkeep of critical feeder roads that link agricultural hubs and rural communities to urban centers.
The legislative process reached its final stage following a motion moved by the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Suleiman Yakubu Azara, which was seconded by the Minority Leader, Hon. Luka Iliya Zhekaba.
