Nasarawa Deputy Gov inaugurates committee for Jonathan’s visit

Date:

From Gambo Ahmed, Lafia

Deputy Governor of Nasarawa state, Dameshi Luka Barau, yesterday inaugurated a high powered committee to prepare ground for the visit of President Goodluck Jonathan to Nasarawa state next week.

The inauguration took place at the Kini Country Guest Inn in Akwanga, the headquarters of Akwanga local government area of the state.

Deputy Governor Barau had since defected to PDP from the All Progressives Congress, APC, on which platform he was elected as the deputy governor to the incumbent governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura in 2011.

In his inaugural speech, the Deputy Governor charged the committee members to work assiduously by ensuring that they mobilize all supporters of PDP in the state to welcome President Jonathan in Lafia on Tuesday.

He continued that PDP in Nasarawa state want to prove to Mr. president that the party is still waxing stronger in the state despite all sorts of propaganda being sponsored by the ruling APC, in the state, that it has taken over the control of the state.

His words: “I want to charge you the committee members to ensure that all available spaces at the venue of the President’s visit are all filled with PDP supporters in the state; hence you should mobilize all PDP members in all the constituencies of the state to welcome Mr. President. But if the occasion fails, it means all of us have failed.”

Also speaking at the inauguration, the secretary of PDP’s Board of Trustees, BoT, Senator Walid Jibrin, appealed to Nasarawa people to do away with politics of religion and tribalism as only God can give power to whomever he wants.

He said: “Hosting of the President in Nasarawa state is a task among PDP members in the state that needs to be accomplished to prove that PDP is still waxing in high degrees and you should redouble your efforts at ensuring that PDP reclaims Nasarawa by February. I also appeal to the immediate minister of information, Labaran Maku, to calm down and allow PDP to deliver the people of Nasarawa state.”
