Nasarawa, Devt Partner to embark on measles immunization

Nasarawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency (NAPHDA) in conjunction with Development Partners has rolled out plans to embark on routine immunization against measles for children ranging from the months of 9 to 5 years soon.
The state immunization officer, Pharmacist Sunday Bawa Iliya made this known during a stakeholders meeting comprising media organizations yesterday.
Pharmacist Bawa said that the aim was targeted towards eradicating the child killer disease in Nigeria in collaboration with foreign partners as well as charged stakeholders at the meeting to rise up by embarking on effective dissemination and sensitization of the general public on the need for parents to avail their children for the forth coming immunization scheduled for February 8th to February 13th across the state.
Also highlighting on the child Immunization against measles , Doctor Elizabeth Jude, who described measles as a very dangerous disease that can spread from one infected person to another as well as measles affect mostly children who were under five years and that it can lead to their death.
She further urged parents to take their children ages 9 months to under 5 years to be vaccinated against measles in all government health facilities and vaccination posts nearest to them.
She said: “This is a great opportunity for every eligible child to get an additional protected dose of the measles vaccine irrespective of previous vaccination History. Measles vaccine is free, safe and saves lives get your children protected. ensure your child completes all routine immunization before the age of one.”
Doctor Elizabeth further urged parent to allow vaccination teams to vaccinate their children against the disease: added that friends and neighbor should also encourage themselves to take their children for vaccination against Measles.”
