Nasarawa govt. releases N 130m for state retirees

Governor UmaruTankoAlmakura of Nasarawa state has released the sum of N130,000,000.00 for the first phase of payment of gratuity and death benefits to the state public servants who exited from the service before April 2011.
Addressing the state retirees yesterday at the Abacha Youth Centre Lafia, the state capital, the state chairman for the payment of gratuity and death benefits Mr. Thomas Ari Ogiri said that arrangements for the other categories and local government council retirees was on-going.
Ogiri, however, appealed to pensioners in the state to exercise more patience as according to him “government as it strives to settle all benefits amidst dwindling resources”.
Also speaking at the disbursement of cheques, the Director General Pension Bureau, AbdullahiOseze said that the exercise was meant for retirees ranging from the Ministry of Agriculture, Finance, Board of Internal Revenue and the Nasarawa Agricultural Development Agency.
“As you are all aware His excellency Governor Almakura has released the sum of N400,000,000 for the payment of state and local government retires and pension as arrangement is concluded all payment has been made to pensioners who are due,” He maintained.
