Nasarawa Guber: Group canvass support for Maku

Date:

By Etuka Sunday

Barely a day after the former Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, formally dumped his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to contest for the governorship seat of his state of Nasarawa, on the platform of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), a group, Toto Youths for Positive Change (TYPC) has declared its support for his candidature.

In a statement by the group’s National Coordinator, Comrade Musa Adamu, in Abuja, TYPC  also hailed the decision of the former minster for moving over to APGA to realise his dream.

It said his bold move had showed that he was not a political weakling who takes political injustice lying low for fear of losing his comfort zone.

It further said discernible indigenes of the state were behind him in appreciation of his sacrifice for dumping his “comfort zone” to an “uncertain one”, saying they would repay him in kind come February.

“But for the bold step of Mr Maku, a former student activist, to APGA to continue his match towards the emancipation of the people of Nasarawa State, the state would have been deprived of the much needed alternative leadership.

“We hail his bold move and political sagacity which can only be exhibited by people like Mr Maku who can read political arithmetic correctly. The state cannot continue to be hamstrung into settling for the second, or even third best when it can always aim for the highest,” it said.

It further said with the emergence of Mr Maku on the stage after being robbed by the same party he toiled to patch together after 2011 defeat, the political calculus in the state’s guber election has changed.

“We hereby declare our unalloyed, unflinching and unwavering support for the comrade and assured him of our 20,000 member strong votes even as we will visit all nooks and crannies to market him to the long suffering people of the local government.”

It also commended the first governorship candidate who stepped down for Mr. Maku, Matthew Umbugaku, describing him as a politician with eyes for the best.

It said with spirit of give and take already exhibited by major actors in the state chapter of the party, there was no doubt about the party’s victory in the state.
