The Nasarawa State Football Association (NSFA), in collaboration with Nigerian leading betting company, Bet9ja, has presented an award of Excellence to the State’s Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Othman Bala Adam.
At the grand finale of the 2019/2020 Nasarawa State Football Association/Bet9ja Grassroots Premier League Championship held at the Lafia City on Monday, 18th January, 2021, the FA Chairman who is equally the Independent Chairman, Nationwide League One in Nigeria, Alh. Alkali Mohammed, stated that the award was in recognition of the Commissioner’s relentless determination, in conformity with the Governor Abdullahi Sule-led administration’s templates, to make Nasarawa State the hub of sports development and its youth the beacons of emulation in the country.
While commending Honourable Othman Bala Adam and Governor Engr. Abdullahi Sule for instituting programmes and policies that have direct bearing to the target audience, the football administrator opined that “for the first time since Nasarawa State was created, its youth and sports are gaining global attention, thereby placing the State in the Comity of Societies with high regards for youth and sports development.”
Though Othman Bala was at the venue of the final, his presence there was short-lived as he was excused to attend a superior function.
Technical Adviser of Nasarawa United FC, Bala Nikyu, however, received the award in his stead.
The Commissioner’s co-awardees include Nigerian Ambassador to Sierra-Leone, His Excellency, Amb. Henry Omaku; Hon. Mohammed Omadefu(Member, Nasarawa State House of Assembly ); Hon. Daniel Ogah Ogazi(Member, Nasarawa State House of Assembly); Hon. Salisu Iyimoga(Member, Nasarawa State House of Assembly); His Royal Highness, Mr. Lawrence Ayih 11(Abaga Toni), and Ahmed Halilu Evulanza(CEO, Vinco Innovations).
Kokona Selected FC clinched the maiden trophy 4-2 to the agony of Ogene FC on penalty shootout after regulation time ended 1-1 apiece.
Interestingly, both teams were offered slots to participate in the National Amateur Divisions 2 (automatic) & 3(play-off).
