Nasarawa United’s quest to avoid relegation from the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL has suffered a major setback as the club has been banished to play their remaining home matches in the current league at Pantami Stadium in Gombe State and fined N6, million.
The sanctions handed to the club on Monday followed the club’s inability to control the crowed during their matchday 33 North-Central derby against Plateau United at the Lafia City Stadium on Sunday, April 13
Despite the home team winning the thrilling encounter 3-2, Plateau United players were attacked with Vincent Temitope injured on the neck.
In the sanction released on Monday, the NPFL organisers accused Nasarawa United of failing to control the crowd during the match and consequently fined them N2 million for failing to provide adequate security, N3 million for consistently breaching the league rules and N1 Million compensation to be played to the injured Vincent Temitope
“Nasarawa United have been charged for breaching the Framework & Rules of the NPFL in the course of their fixture vs Plateau United on Sunday.
The Lafia-based club failed to provide adequate and effective security resulting in unauthorised persons gaining access to restricted areas and harassing Plateau United and the match officials.
“It further breached the NPFL25 rules when their supporters assaulted Plateau United player, Vincent Temitope, with the intention to cause grievous body harm. Following these breaches, Nasarawa United have been banished to the Pantami Stadium in Gombe to play their home matches for the rest of NPFL25.
“Nasarawa United have been fined N1m each for failing to provide adequate security & ensuring the proper conduct of their supporters (totalling N2m).
“A N3m fine has been imposed on Nasarawa United for persistent breach of NPFL25 Framework & Rules.
