The Chief of Naval Staff, (CNS) Vice Admiral Usman Jubril has assured the Nigerian Olympic Committee that the Navy is ready to give every form of support to the Nigerian Olympic Committee to enable it develop sporting activities in the country.
Jibrin gave the assurance at the Navy Headquarters Abuja while playing host to the President of Nigeria Olympics Committee, Mr Sani Ndanusa and members of his team on an investiture ceremony of the patron of “One Service ,One Medal project (OSOM ) ahead of RIO 2016 Olympics.
The CNS said that the Nigerian Navy would give the expected support to OSOM which was being driven from the office of the President adding that they will key properly and support the project as much as it can to ensure that athletics will not only look out for bronze but win gold for the country.
‘This we can start by looking at where we have comparative advantage and build on it, train on it and expose our athletics to outside competition.
‘So that over time, they can develop and compete with their peers outside of this country’ the Naval Chief added.
Earlier in his address, Mr Ndanusa said the aim of the courtesy call was to solicit for support from Navy to help develop sporting activities.
He said a reasonable percentage of medals won by Nigerians over time from Olympic were from the military.
He further said OSOM was set up by the committee to partner relevant agencies to win medals for the country challenging the various security agencies in the country to at least win a medal in the 2016 Summer Olympics games in Brazil.
