Aminu Maida, CEO and Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has committed to enhancing the Commission’s achievements from 2024 in the upcoming year.
In statements shared via the X handle of Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovations, and Digital Economy, Maida highlighted key initiatives for 2025 as:
– Coverage Maps: The NCC will introduce coverage maps based on crowd-sourced data, allowing users to assess the performance of Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) in their areas. These maps will provide real performance statistics rather than simulated data.
– Increased Transparency: Maida stated that the NCC aims to foster a more robust competitive environment by increasing transparency, benefiting both consumers and operators.
– Direct Access to Information: Users will be able to access this performance data through the NCC’s website, eliminating the need to rely on anecdotal evidence.
“We are optimistic about 2025 and will build on the small gains we made in 2024. The foundations laid will enhance competition and service delivery within the sector,” Maida said.
Additionally, the NCC’s infrastructure has been designated as Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII) following a Presidential Order on November 6, 2023, underscoring its importance in the national framework.
The NCC looks forward to advancing these initiatives in 2025, aiming to strengthen the telecommunications landscape in Nigeria.
