The Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Nomadic Education.(NCNE), Kaduna, Professor Bashir Haruna Usman, has officially handed over the leadership of the Commission to Dr. Abdu Umar Ardo, who now serves as the Acting Executive Secretary.
Dr. Ardo, the most senior Director and a member of the Commission’s management team, assumes this role following the successful completion of Professor Usman’s second five-year tenure.
Usman speaks on stewardship
During the formal handover ceremony, Professor Usman expressed profound appreciation to the management team and all staff for their unwavering support throughout his tenure.
He attributed the achievements recorded during his leadership to the collective dedication of the Commission’s personnel and stakeholders.
He urged all staff and management to remain committed and to extend the same level of support to the new Acting Executive Secretary, whom he described as a seasoned officer who rose through the ranks and is thoroughly familiar with the Commission’s operations.
Professor Usman further noted that the milestones and standards established during his tenure are foundational and should be sustained and built upon.
He called on management and staff to rally behind Dr. Ardo, offering him the necessary cooperation to succeed in his stewardship and to introduce innovative ideas that will advance the progress already achieved.
Ardo praises Usman’s legacy
In his response, the Acting Executive Secretary, Dr. Abdu Umar Ardo, thanked Professor Usman for his exemplary leadership and fatherly guidance in shaping the Nomadic Education Programme and elevating it to a commendable standard.
He acknowledged the substantial legacy left behind, describing it as “big shoes” that require concerted effort to fill.
Dr. Ardo wished Professor Usman continued success in his future endeavours and appealed to the Management Team and all staff for their full support in taking the programme to even greater heights.
About NCNE
The NCNE was established in 1989 to provide functional basic education to socially excluded and mobile nomadic groups.
It was created by Decree 41 of 1989 (now codified under the Nomadic Education Act, Cap N20 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004).
The NCNE targets Nomadic pastoralists (such as Fulani), migrant fisher-folk, and migrant farmers.
The commission integrates nomads into national life, boost literacy, and raise their productive and income levels through tailored formal and non-formal education.
